We love participating in styled photo shoots. It gives us the chance to experiment with the styling of our clothes and meet some truly talented wedding vendors. Most recently, we participated in a styled shoot coordinated by Styled & Inspired. If you haven’t looked them up yet, do it now. Inspiration abounds! The shoot took place at Holman Ranch, a breathtaking 400-acre property in Carmel Valley, complete with a fully restored historic stone hacienda, it was the hacienda itself that inspired this sophisticated and romantic shoot.
When it comes to dressing for a wedding everyone thinks the groom has the easy job. But looking and feeling great on your wedding day is more than just a matter of putting on a suit. Consider when and where your wedding will take place. These details should be used to guide your style choices. If you’re still in doubt, we’re here to help!
If you’re considering a relaxed backyard wedding, a rustic wine-country affair, or a cool urban gathering, a casual suit is best. For this photoshoot, we wanted to create an effortless, but still polished look for our groom. After all, many couples are taking a more laid-back approach to their weddings. We chose our slim fit, tan wedding suit from Allure and matching vest. Some may think a white shirt is too plain, but it can actually make a real statement. For this effortlessly handsome look, we chose a collarless white shirt and left off the tie. Don’t wait until the day of your wedding to try on your shirt. Make sure it’s neatly pressed and not too see-through. If you’re getting married on a hot day or you’re prone to working up a sweat on the dance floor, it’s always a good idea to have a spare shirt on hand.
As we mentioned before, this is a modern and slim-fitting suit, which can be very flattering when tailored properly. When getting fitted for your suit, it’s a good idea to bring the shoes you’re planning to wear. All trousers, but especially slim and modern fits, should not have a lot of excess fabric pooling around your ankles.
Vests, sometimes called waistcoats, can really pull an ensemble together. If your wedding is casual, or if you’re getting married in a hot weather destination, grooms will often omit the jacket altogether and wear the vest alone, as shown here. To keep the look clean and simple, we opted for a vest that matched the suit, but for grooms who want to inject a little color or texture to their outfit, the vest is a great place to do that.
To complete the ensemble and keep it looking polished, we chose brown dress shoes. Sneakers, no matter how hip, are too casual for this particular outfit and location. Remember, it’s all about balance. Even when you’re aiming for an easygoing vibe, your wedding is still a pretty monumental event, and you want to respect that.
Traditionally speaking, a tan suit is not as formal as a darker suit. They are generally worn seasonally, spring and summer, or in tropical climates. No matter what, check with your other half. You don’t want them to feel over-dressed on their wedding day!
